Ethanol as a side-product from cheese production

"A Wisconsin cheese maker is expanding his bacteria-tending skills to include nurturing yeast to make ethanol and growing algae to produce oil for biodiesel in an intriguing energy-integrated, waste-to-power process."

The Ethanol Producer Magazine reports that this process requires around 1/3rd of the energy that is needed to produce the same amount of ethanol from corn. On top of that, hardly any additional water is needed as compared to the three litres of this valuable liquid which is needed to produce one litre of ethanol from corn. And it can all be done at a price of less than USD 1 (EUR 0.64) for one gallon (3.79 litres) of ethanol.

According to the article, the Polish have already shown interest. We assume Germany, France, Italy and the Netherlands (together with Poland EU's big five of cheese production) will follow suit some time soon!
