North Rhine-Westphalia's State Secretary of Economic Affairs, Dr Jens Baganz, will be opening the Jahrestreffen of the NRW Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Network. He will welcome the network's many international guests and partners. Being a border region, the state clearly recognises the importance of close ties with neighbouring European countries.
The network's annual meeting is an excellent opportunity to evaluate recent and ongoing activities, and to take a peek into the nearby future of fuel cells and hydrogen for mobility.
Programme
The
programme is divided into three sessions. In the morning international developments in the field of fuel cells and hydrogen will be reviewed, followed by presentations on hydrogen infrastructure and production. The afternoon session will focus on the activities within the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Hylight: NRW Hydrogen HywayScandinavia has one, Germany wants one: a hydrogen highway, or, as it is wittily called in the German border region, a hyway. A route along hydrogen filling stations and projects. North Rhine-Westphalia is currently working towards the World Hydrogen Energy Conference, held in the German city of Essen in 2010. The key project the network is planning to have realised by that time is the NRW Hydrogen Hyway.
The route will follow the existing hydrogen pipeline in the Rhine-Ruhr area, with a total length 230 km. It will mainly comprise existing projects, which will be intensified and linked up. Along the hyway public transport demonstration projects will take place, involving hydrogen filling stations and a bus fleet. For short and medium term applications, hydrogen as a by-product from local industry is available. The main object is to strengthen hydrogen as a competitive fuel option and to make hydrogen vehicles marketable through intensive testing and optimisation. |
