Electric driving to cool the earth?

Will electric driving cool the earth? The Japan Electric Vehicle Club thinks it will. To create support amongst the Japanese for their campaign against global warming, some of its prominent members travel through the country in two electric cars.

The Japan Times reports: "At a ceremony held in Tokyo to mark the start of the eight-prefecture journey, Kanagawa Gov. Shigefumi Matsuzawa told the audience that the spread of electric vehicles 'as supremely eco-friendly cars would help preserve the environment.' Matsuzawa is an advocate of making Kanagawa Prefecture a model area for spreading the use of electric vehicles."

According an article at Wired, mr Shai Agassi, initiator of Project Better Place ( about which we reported earlier), "says Japan is 'the perfect place for electric vehicles because it is "a transportation island" where large numbers of people living in dense urban areas drive short distances.' "
