Under-inflated tyres cost 8.1 billion litres of fuel
"A study done by Bridgestone Europe found that 93.5% of cars in the European Union have under-inflated tyres", leading to a tremendous waste of fuel.
The article at Treehugger continues: "Bridgestone calculated the extra fuel burned to amount to 2.14 billion gallons (8.1 billion litres, MiM) per year, and 18.4 million tons of extra CO2. Just for Europe."
A quick and dirty calculation tells us that this is close to fifty per cent of all fuels sold at the pump in the entire UK.
