The Hague to make a full switch to natural gas
All buses in the the Hague city region, excluding the Hague city services, will have Veolia outfits and run on natural gas by the end of next year.
Besides deploying around 140 brand-new low-floor CNG buses, Veolia will also be responsible for installing new CNG filling stations before the concession period commences on 30 August next year.
The tender for the Hague was won by the city's current transportation company HTM, which will deploy 135 new CNG buses.
The city region authorities claim that within several years they "will have the country’s most environmentally friendly bus service, completely running on natural gas.”
Mr. Peter Tromp of the Haarlem municipality, a long-time supporter of natural gas and biogas, said, “It seems as if the natural gas bus has seen its definitive breakthrough in our country. The next challenge is to make the switch from natural gas to biogas (green gas).”
Other cities and regions that have already switched are Haarlem, Ede/Wageningen, Leeuwarden and the provinces of Groningen and Zeeland.
