CNG making inroads
As can be read
here, in the Dutch city of Haarlem, a CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) bus fleet (and other vehicles) was introduced last year. This month, also the city of 's-Hertogenbosch and the Gelderland Province have decided to promote the use of CNG.
In a press release, the 's-Hertogenbosch municipality explains how it envisions to stimulate the uptake of CNG solutions for mobility. Together with larger locally operating organisations, the municipality will first create a critical demand for CNG vehicles. In the meantime, the municipality itself will add CNG vehicles to its fleet. It is envisaged that before the end of this year (2007), the first full-fledged filling station will have been realised. As a short-term solution, the municipality is looking into the introduction of a so-called slow-fill station.
The Province of Gelderland is on a comparable mission and is looking for investors and filling station proprietors that would be prepared to realise CNG filling stations in the Province. The Province has made available EUR 600,000 for co-investment. Within the Provincial boundaries, one project has already been realised: on the so-called 'Valleilijn' (Valley Route), biogas powered buses will be introduced.
Minds in Motion will keep an eye on these developments and report back any interesting developments.
