Project (ongoing): Cargohopper (Utrecht, NL)

Since April 2009, a new system for the distribution of goods around inner cities has been introduced to the Netherlands, known as Cargohopper.

Cargohopper is a miniature, 13-metre long electric train riding on pneumatic tyres that city distributor Hoek uses to deliver goods around Utrecht’s inner city quarters.

Cargohopper nows runs completely on solar energy! For that purpose, appr. 9,5 square metres of solar panels have bee attached to the roofs of the lorries, thus generating enough power giving for 32 kilometres of go and stop traffic.
