Minister for the Economy of North-Rhine Westphalia, Germany, Ms. Toben, announced to make available sixty million euros in a bid to get at least a quarter million electric vehicles on the roads by 2020.
Sixty million euros, dedicated to the cause of electric mobility, will be made available through a competition. Companies, research institutes and municipal organisations of German region North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) can submit their project proposals until 24 September.
“We aim to make North Rhine-Westphalia Europe’s first extensive model region for electric mobility. By 2020 we will at least bring 250,000 electric vehicles on the roads,” according to Economy Minister Ms. Toben at today’s first German electric mobility conference in Bonn.
Earlier, Germany’s Federal Ministry of Transport had already announced to invest 115 million euros in eight “model regions for electric mobility”, among which the Rhine-Ruhr area, which is part of NRW. The Bundesland’s extensive hydrogen and fuel cell activities, with a strong focus on electrification of drive-trains, is expected to receive a boost as well.
