EcoProcura 2009 calls for contributions

ICLEI, the international association of local governments for sustainability, has issued a call for contributions for its EcoProcura 2009 conference in Reykjavik, at which one of the focuses will be sustainable transport.

'Opportunities for interaction'

The high-profile conference, run in conjunction with the Reykjavik City Council, provides an opportunity for purchasers, policy-makers, product designers, suppliers and manufacturers to exchange ideas, experience and opinions on sustainable procurement.

ICLEI’s European Secretariat Philipp Tepper said, "The EcoProcura 2009 programme opens exciting opportunities for interaction between public procurers and product and service developers. This will boost public procurement’s role in triggering solutions on the market that address efficient and ambitious climate change mitigation and adaptation – especially in the field of emerging technologies for electric vehicles and alternative fuels."

Who's invited

Yes, procurers are united all right. But ready for the climate debate?

The organisers are particularly keen to invite local government and business representatives, scientific and international organisations, and other climate-neutral stakeholders to participate in the event. For those involved in sustainable mobility, this presents a unique opportunity to engage in one of Europe’s largest convergances of sustainable procurement professionals.

Prepping for Copenhagen

The conference will address key issues in sustainable procurement, such as how procurement can drive innovation and act as a launching pad for new sustainable technologies, and the opportunities for early market engagement between public authority procurers and suppliers.

One of its principal aims is to develop a position on how sustainable procurement can play a role in the global climate debate, moving towards a post-2012 global climate agreement to be developed at the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in 2009.
